This is a hand-built 1927 cabin built from 1800’s salvage buildings of the Bakersfield Unified School District. It is 900sf. Do not mistake this for a modern chalet. It is funky and rustic, but there is no place I would rather be. It feels like home.
- YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN LININS AND TOWELS- Please do not make me wash up after you.
- BRING GOOD FOOD- Don’t waste a visit to the mountain eating cold cereal and energy bars.
- TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO.- There is a landfill in Kernville. You can also leave it in the bin at my Kernville home (121 Burlando Road, Kernville, CA 93238- Bin is on the south side of the house).
- DONT LOCK YOURSELF INSIDE AND WATCH TELEVISION.- Walk all over the hill. It is a beautiful place.
- SEPTIC TANK- There is plenty of water, but not plenty of septic line. Take reasonable showers and save our septic.
- If you build a fire in the fireplace, open only the right side, stack in kindling to the backwash one generous log on top. Place a starter block under the kindling and log and light it. DO NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY, leave the door open 1” until the fire is roaring. You need to keep smoke to a minimum to get a draft going. If you smoke out the house, just open a few doors and nurse the fire until it is roaring, then shut it if you like.
- Dont even try to light the wall heaters. They are a pain in the neck. Just throw another blanket over you.
